How I Gained 100 YouTube Subscribers in 2 Weeks Without Fancy Equipment
As a complete YouTube Beginner Over 40
Starting a YouTube channel can feel overwhelming, especially when you think you need expensive equipment to succeed. But let me tell you—this isn’t true. In just two weeks, I’ve gained 100 subscribers, over 10,000 views, and 84 watch hours, all while using minimal gear. Here’s my journey and why you don’t need anything fancy to start yours today.
This complete beginner’s guide will walk you through creating My set up that helps me create videos easily !
My Minimal Setup
When I started, I used what I already had:
A Phone: I film on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. It’s simple, reliable, and gets the job done.
A Cheap Mic: My lavalier mic from Amazon cost very little but drastically improves audio quality.
A Tripod: This keeps my phone stable and allows for hands-free filming.
Natural Light/ Selfie Light: While I have a selfie light, I prefer natural light for its softer look. On cloudy days, I’ve even used a living room lamp, but my tiny selfie light also does the work
Confidence Over Perfection
For years, I hesitated to start YouTube. I overthought everything—equipment, editing, even the sound of my own voice. Last year, I tried podcasting instead, but it didn’t work for me because I wasn’t reaching new audiences. YouTube changed everything.
Since starting, I’ve built confidence I never imagined I’d have. I’ve also grown a supportive global community in the comments, and 11 amazing people joined my membership program. While the financial impact hasn’t been huge yet, the growth I see is incredible.
My Editing Process
Editing doesn’t have to be complicated. I use CapCut, an intuitive app that makes trimming silences, adding effects, and polishing videos straightforward. You don’t need to spend hours editing either—sometimes, simple, authentic videos perform better.
If you’re hesitant about editing, don’t worry. Authenticity is king. Just focus on showing up, creating content, and improving as you go.
The Power of Starting
The key to growth on YouTube—or any platform—is consistency. I post four videos a week, and this routine has transformed not only my channel but also my mindset. The exponential growth is undeniable: my views and watch hours are increasing steadily, and I can see the compound effect working its magic.
Starting is the hardest part, but once you do, the momentum builds. A year from now, you’ll look back at those first videos and feel so proud that you took the leap.
YouTube vs. Other Platforms
One thing I love about YouTube is its potential for exponential growth. Unlike Instagram or TikTok, where content fades quickly, YouTube rewards consistent, original content. It’s a platform where your efforts can snowball over time, making it an invaluable tool for creators
